Torrey Pines - A Favorite Local Climb


At 1.4 miles with 400 feet of elevation gain, TORREY PINES STATE
RESERVE offers breathtaking views as well as a breath-taking climb.  
Located on Coast Highway 101, just south of Carmel Valley Road, Torrey
Pines is one of San Diego's jewels,  an ideal location to get some great
repeats in.  The following link shows the grade for this picturesque climb.

Discover one of San Diego County's best kept secrets.  HIGHLAND VALLEY
ROAD (HVR), found just off of Pomerado Rd, is a secluded road with plenty
of climbing. HVR is characterized by steep pitches that test you as you climb
1300 feet in five miles.  The pitches are over 10%.  Oh and the descent is
even more fun as you easily reach speeds over 45mph.  The links below

Soledad Mountain Road

Another great climb in San Diego is Soledad Mountain Road  at 3.5 miles
with 700 feet of elevation gain.    Starting at  
Felspar Street and Soledad
Mountain Road continuing up Soledad Mountain Road to the top of the
mountain at cross.

Start at Flower Hill Mall heading east on Via De la Valle, turn right on El Camino
Real, left on San Dieguito Road,  right Old El Camino, right on the Side Street
which reconnects to El Camino, continue to Sorrento Valley, south Interstate 5,
exit Genessee, left on Torrey Pines Road, down La Jolla Shores, up to Via
Capri, down Soledad Mountain Road (SMR), repeat SMR, down Via Capri, up La
Jolla Shores add another repeat on Torrey Pines Hill.
