People often ask about some of the Epic rides taken by our coaches.  The list that follows contains
some of our coaches favorites and not so favorite.  We have provided you with elevation charts and
route sheets when available. If you aspire to earn the California Triple Crown or Thousand Mile Club
you will have to train on some of the routes provided below and subsequently do  some these rides.  

The rides are listed in alphabetical order.  
A rating system of A through D is provided to give some
perspective on the difficulty of the ride.
 A is most difficult and D is least difficult.










Mt. Baldy                                        Rated B

Looking for solitude, scenery, and switchbacks?   Mt. Baldy may be just the ride for you.  Take a look

Mulholland Double Century             Rated A

A climbers Double Century 202 miles and 16,500 of climbing in the beautiful and very scenic Santa
Monica Mountains.  


Nate Harrison Grade                       Rated A

If you are bored with South Grade and East Grade of Palomar Mountain try this 10 mile dirt road climb.
 
Experienced riders only.

Palm Springs                                   Rated B

A great way to get some early miles is to ride to the Palm Springs Century and back from your home.

Palomar Mountain                         Rated B

Want to try some Hors Categorie (HC)  climbing by Tour de France standards without the travel?  Look
at Palomar Mountain's impressive statistics. Perfect mountain to train on for Everest Challenge and
Furnace Creek 508.


San Diego Brevet Series               Rated C to A+

For those really dedicated to going the distance on their bikes, here is a series of 200km, 300km, 400K,
and 600K,
1000km unsupported, nonstop events.



San Diego's Finest Double Century       Rated A+

Coming soon the toughest Double Century in San Diego County.  Dare if you will to challenge yourself
on this epic day of climbing.  Beginning in Escondido conveniently next to the 15 interstate.  You will
climb Lake Wohlford, Palomar South Grade, Mesa Grande, Julian, Yaqui Pass, Montezuma Grade,
Palomar East Grade, Cole Grade.  


San Luis Obispo 600km                     Rated A+

A very hard but scenic 600km Brevet.  The events starts in Cayucos then north to Carmel along the
coast including Big Sur.   Then the route turns inland for climbing and headwinds.  

Solvang Double Century                   Rated D

194 miles with 7200 feet of climbing.  Very scenic rolling terrain course. Very Fixed Gear Friendly
(FGF)

Tour of Two Forests                            Rated B

A double century that has more than 13,000 feet of elevation gain and almost no traffic lights, the Tour
of Two Forests is another great, scenic ride through parts of Los Angeles, Ventura and Kern Counties.

Epic Train Rating System

A -       Rides with this rating are the most challenging events.  You can expect remote areas and
extreme temperatures.  Many  of these rides will  have mountainous terrain. You will suffer from  either
long mileage, elevation gain or both. The longer brevets fall  under this rating  because riders must be  
self-sufficient--no support  is provided.
 A RATED RIDES ARE FOR EXPERIENCED RIDERS
ONLY  AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.

B -      Rides with this rating are very similar to A rides however service is provided and these events
may not have mountainous terrain.

C-       Rides in this rating have rolling terrain, good support, and provide a  challenge for newer riders.  

D-       Rides in this category are
great beginner Double Centuries or  Centuries.

Beginning in Mentone at the the Mill Creek Ranger Station climb Oak Glen in both
directions, then climb to Onyx Summit 8443 Elevation, continue to Big Bear City and return
to Mill Creek via Onyx Summit again.  118 miles 14,000 feet of gain.
