Mission Bay to Mount Laguna
This ride is very tough and should be only be undertaken by experienced riders.
There are points of this ride where acquiring fluids is difficult.  And while you
try to conserve the fluids in fact you should be drinking them because of the
heat you are being exposed to.

You start at Mission Bay and head East on Friars Rd and continue on Mission
Gorge.  This is a nice easy warm up.  Your first climb is over Mission Gorge
Rd as you drop into Santee.  Take Mission Gorge through Santee to Lakeside.

Once in Lakeside you turn off onto Woodside and then Wintergardens Blvd.
Continue on 2nd St and make a left onto La Cresta Rd. The climb to Crest is a
good 3 miles and averages 6% grade. Stop for fluids at Crest.

Descend Mountain View and Harbison Canyon.  Stop for fluids before the
Dehesa Rd climb.  Once you crest Dehesa Rd you will do the toughest section
of the ride without being able to get fluids until Descanso.  Lots of climbing
and lots of heat.

Climb to Pine Valley and then descend down Old Hwy 80.  Left onto Kitchen
Creek and discover one of San Diego County's most secluded climbs.  It is a
must do climb.

Kitchen Creek will eventually connect with Sunrise Hwy and you can finish the
climb to the peak of Mount Laguna up to 6,100 feet.

Then it is a pretty fast ride back home.  The last 20+ miles are into a headwind
as you head due West to the coast and back to Mission Bay.
