I have been competing in triathlons for 12 years with inconsistent results. Since training with George, I have set bike and overall race PRs in every triathlon I entered this year (including Wildflower!). George's training program worked around my time commitments and focused on my race goals. I found that his program increased my power output, improved my riding technique and built confidence in my climbing ability. Bring on next season! Carol
I desperately needed to redeem myself after my bad results at Wildflower. I've been working hard on the bike with George Vargas from Epic Training Systems, doing drills, hill repeats, ILT's, time trials and such, and going out with Perry, Ginger and Chuck-E on Sundays. It worked. I did the 40K bike in 1:21:25, only 1:25 off my projected time! The pro woman who won did the bike in 1:10:42! I was only ten minutes and change on the bike behind the pro woman who won the tri! Mary
The first time I worked with Doug was for a bike fitting. He was using a road bike with aero bars. At my behest, he bought a triathlon specific bike. I subsequently fit him to his new bike. Congratulations Doug... "You are an Ironman!". Just got back from competing in Ironman Wisconsin 2005, September 11. Turned out to be a brutal day - record heat, 94 degrees with strong winds on the bike. 19.3% DidNotFinish rate, highest ever for an IM event. Longtime IM people said it was the toughest IM they've seen - as hot and windy as Kona (Hawaii) ever is, then add hills. But I finished! Wasn't pretty, but I finished. 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run in 14hours, 56minutes, 48seconds. Doug
I entered the Reebok Women's Supersprint triathlon on Oct. 16th. It was my first tri on my new 10-speed. I had never ridden a bike like that, so George gave me a crash course lesson and I managed to take first place in the 50-55 age group!!!. During the bike ride, I kept hearing George's voice saying, "Keep the cadence up. Don't ever stop peddling. Ride through the bumps. Shift often." And I remembered to have the chain on the small ring in the front at the beginning of the race. I knew I had to have a decent bike time because I know I'm a slow runner. Thanks to George's tips I had a successful race. Laurie Guidero
“The ride was one of my best. I think it was a perfect combination of the bike fit and CARBO-PRO. I was averaging 2 mph faster out of the aero bars. I averaged about 21-22 mph in the aero bars. Thanks so much! It was worth every penny!!" Kristen
Thanks for the ride and the training, it was a pleasure to ride with you. I have always enjoyed the bike, from the time I was a child, my bike and I went everywhere together, it brought me a sense of freedom at a young age, it was a benchmark for me in my life, a time to explore the world on my own, it was magical, and today was one of those days. Thank you for helping me find my bike again, I will definitely pass your name onto my riders and I would suggest you come meet them one morning ... Gabe Apodaca

Hi George. Giuseppe here. Hope all is well with you. Just wanted to say hello. Saturday I did my first Half Ironman and I was thinking of you with all the good advice you have given me when I started doing triathlon. The Cervelo was great,I did the bike part pretty fast, then had to slow down with the run because of back problems from being in aero position to long. Anyway was a great experience and now I am all fired up for two more big races this year. If you happen to be in La Jolla Stop by the restaurant. Take and thank you again for all your professional help with making me choose the right equipment, Ciao
I would just like to thank George for getting me through my 1st Ironman..... I was going to rent race wheels when a friend offered to loan me his...... only one problem they were tubulars and I have only ridden clinchers.... I was so scared that I was not going to use them ..... When I told George he thought I was nuts to rent wheels.... He then convince me that the only wheels to race on were tubulars.... He then instructed me on what to do if I got a flat.... Going in to my 1st Ironman I was confident not only because George showed me what to do if I got a flat but he reassured me that I was not going to flat. ( I didn't ) George thanks for your help in making my 1st Ironman awesome...... you are the best Bryan Cimicata Ironman
George, It was a pleasure riding with you on Saturday. You are so comfortable on your bike and excellent at pointing out road hazards. It's like riding at a whole different level when I am riding behind you. Thanks!
George! Thank you so much for the recent training you did with Scott. Being new at biking he was incredibly grateful for your insight and professionalism. I've always been impressed with your dedication and enthusiasm for the sport...you're a total inspiration and do a fantastic job of helping others get comfortable with riding. You're a legend!! Muchisimas gracias!! Liz
After her BIKE FIT really close to IM Florida Email dated 10/23/07 George, Thanks so much for such a professional job. I took the bike out for a short ride w/the new adjustments and it felt pretty good...of course, expecting to ride for 112 miles without some discomfort is a little too naive huh? However, it's an added plus knowing someone can bike 500+ miles non-stop...kinda puts the IM in perspective when/if I start feeling tired. Kathy http://www.flickr.com/gp/8705399@N06/k3mm24 UPDATE 11/12/07 I had a GREAT bike ride...despite 20-25 headwinds for the last 25 miles...I kept the lowered position and I actually had no "side effects" with the body other than being unable to digest food properly because I was in the aero positiion for so long...set a PR. The run, however, had serious stomach cramps, nausia and dizziness so was forced to walk about half the marathon.
06/27/08 Theresa came to me with just a couple of months before taking on Ride the Rockies-- a seven day climbing tour in the Colorado Rockies. Her longest ride before hiring me was just 30 miles. We worked on climbing technique and strategies to get her through this very difficult event. We didn't have the luxury of time to build a solid foundation of miles. Here is her email when she returned. I'm BAACK!! And all in one piece too! I did every mile of the 435 mile tour, and did not have to SAG once. I kept up with (another rider) who successfully did the Mulholland, Breathless, Heartbreak trilogy this year. Some days I actually caught up with and passed her. Attached are a few snaps for fun and a link to see a better photo gallery of some of the scenery (Ride the Rockies link). The toughest climbing mentally and physically were the last four miles between Alma and the Hoosier Pass summit on the last day. I was hurtin' for certain but kept hearing your voice from our various training sessions..."stay on your bike...do NOT get off your bike." I remembered the two mile hill down near Palomar and just kept saying to myself...okay it's two of those two mile hills and it's definitely not anywhere near as bad as the San Clemente hill. Pedal, pedal, pedal....heels down please! George you are truly an inspiration and I appreciate all that you were able to do with the limited time and my abilities. I am definitely hooked on cycling!! Big Hugs! : ) Theresa
